Barnsley Eye: July 2010 - As Published: Dil Raj Indian Restaurant located in the heart of Dodworth, Barnsley has undergone a major renovation and rebranding.

In conjunction with the restaurants refurbishment is the launch of its brand new and exciting menu – New and improved, this menu pays particular attention to assist in the customers quest for a balanced and well rounded diet, by ensuring that dishes do not contain heavy oils, creams or spices but instead rely on the authentic flavours of the dish... as was intended.

“our aim is to give customers a completely new dining experience by creating a brand new menu with brand new flavours – unlike anything they will have seen anywhere in Yorkshire” says owner Miron “as one of Barnsleys premier Indian restaurants, we are very proud to have a reputation for not only the finest Indian cuisine but in offering all our customers fantastic hospitality – whether local, regulars or visitors”.

Renovation plans have called for a complete over hall of the whole restaurant to make this restaurant into what promises to be a contemporary and elegant dining experience. The restaurant reopened on 24th June.

And to endorse Sir Harold Birds immeasurable contributions to the voluntary sector, whereby Sir Harold Bird has over the years created opportunities for deprived children, the Manager of The Original Dilraj Tandoori Restaurant, ( Dodworth, Barnsley ), Miron Rahman, together with his customer service Manager:  Mukhtar Tufail offered Sir Harold a life time membership to The Original Dilraj Restaurant.. During the ceremony Sir Harold was also thanked for helping deprived families in accessing the cricketing world.

After the event Miron Rahman stated, Sir Harold has so often been endorsed at a National Level but we wanted to do something at grass root level, and therefore holding this ceremony made us all feel we were embracing our cricketing legend at
a local level”.

Sir Harold Bird who appeared emotionally taken in by the whole ceremony was joyous to hear Mukhtar Tufail say “ Cricket and sport have over the years posed as a great  platform, helping bring people and communities from different  backgrounds together, Sir Harold Bird has magnificently and majestically elevated that Platform . It is a great honour that Sir Harold is so closely associated with Barnsley, for his presence has ensured selectors never over look potential players from Yorkshire“.

The stringer family have been enjoying delightful evenings at The Original Dilraj since its inception.

Now quite a few of my family members disagree when it comes to which Indian is nicest in Barnsley. For me this is mine, its hard to explain why whether its the diversity of the menu or that the few dishes I chose just hit home every time. I love the atmosphere, the value is decent for a meal for 6 and the service is friendly. I've heard horror stories against this place and I can say hand on heart its all rubbish. I know this because of my line of work and Dil Raj does score well on the star on door initiative that the council run. Otherwise it'd have been shut down. Oh and the mango chutney is brilliant!
